Nonstick cookware is a great addition to any kitchen, providing convenience and ease of use. However, if not properly cared for, nonstick cookware can quickly become damaged and need to be replaced. Here are some tips on maintaining and getting the most out of your nonstick cookware.
Cooking with Nonstick Cookware:
- Preheat using low or medium heat with food or oil and/or butter as needed in your cookware.
- TIP: Don't use cooking spray as it burns at low temperatures and will leave residue that damages the nonstick coating.
- Use plastic or wood/bamboo utensils. Using metal or sharp utensils such as knives and forks may scratch and damage the nonstick coating.
- TIP: Avoid cooking with high temperatures as it will damage the nonstick coating and will lead to bowing of your cookware. Use low or medium heat for the best results.
Cleaning your Nonstick Cookware:
- Always allow your cookware to cool before you wash it. Running cold water on a hot pan can cause thermal shock which could damage the nonstick coating as well as the pan.
- Use mild dish soap, water, and a non-abrasive sponge to clean your nonstick cookware. Avoid harsh scrubbers, harsh cleaners, and using the dishwasher unless specifically specified in the use and care that came with your product.
- Clean using soap and water after each use to avoid grease buildup. Grease buildup may lead to sticking and can be difficult to clean.
Avoid damaging your Nonstick:
- Although Gotham Steel cookware is dishwasher safe, it is recommended you avoid using the dishwasher as it can damage the non stick coating of your cookware. Hand washing your cookware is strongly recommended. If you choose to use the dishwasher, avoid using harsh dishwashing detergent that contain citrus or bleach.
- Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures. Thermal shock may lead to damaging the nonstick coating and warping the cookware. Always allow the cookware to cool prior to washing.
- Avoid using metal or sharp utensils such as knives and forks. Use plastic or wood/bamboo utensils as using metal or sharp utensils may scratch and damage the nonstick coating.
- Store your pan in a single layer, away from other metal or pans. Avoid stacking or nesting without protection as this may cause damage to the nonstick coating and other metal cookware.
- TIP: Place a paper towel inside each vessel if stacking them in a cabinet. The paper towel will help prevent scratching of the stacked surfaces.
- Don't store food in nonstick cookware. Certain foods can damage the nonstick coating when stored in the cookware for extended periods of time.
